“Your gaze focused will help you direct your attention toward what truly matters.
Trust will give you the confidence to believe in yourself and have faith in your path.
And perseverance will allow you to keep moving forward despite obstacles.”

Reflection March 2026

Today I want to remind you that you are capable of achieving your dreams, that you already have everything you need within you.
You might be asking yourself: “How do I make this happen?”
Although it’s simple, we often make it feel more complicated than it is.

That’s why I want to gift you three keys that will help you:

  • Keep your gaze focused

  • Trust yourself

  • Persevere

These three will strengthen the vision you hold of yourself.
Your gaze focused will help you direct your attention toward what truly matters.
Trust will give you the confidence to believe in yourself and have faith in your path.
And perseverance will allow you to keep moving forward despite obstacles.

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” — Henry Ford

As Seneca said:
“What you think of yourself matters far more than what others think of you.”

And remember:
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” — Benjamin Franklin

This is not about rushing or achieving everything at once.
It’s about enjoying the journey—getting to know yourself, rising into yourself, and deeply honoring who you are.

Love yourself. Value yourself.
Don’t stay stuck in guilt when you make mistakes—learn from them instead.
Choose to live with a grateful and joyful heart.

Because as the proverb says:
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.”

With love,

Celebrating Women in Leadership: A Morning of Connection and Empowerment

we had the privilege of attending the International Women’s Day brunch hosted by HAPBWA at the beautiful AC Hotel by Marriott. It was a wonderful morning of celebration, connection, and fellowship among women entrepreneurs and leaders in our community.

Representing HispaFam were Dr. Denisse Centeno, Liza Colón, Myrna Montañez (Director of Operations) and Karen Pérez (Billing). We also had the opportunity to share the event with State Representative Anna Eskamani, along with many inspiring women from our community.

We enjoyed a delicious brunch in a spectacular setting while celebrating the impact, leadership, and contributions of women in our community.

We are also grateful to Penelope Ventura, who generously raffled a ticket to the A La Carta Fashion Show, which we were excited to win during the event.

Thank you to HAPBWA for the invitation and for creating such meaningful spaces for connection, celebration, and empowerment.

It Takes Courage” Community Outreach Initiative

Our intern Laurie Carreras proudly represented Hispanic Family Counseling by participating in the community initiative “It Takes Courage,” in partnership with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

As part of this effort, volunteers distributed domestic violence awareness flyers throughout the community, helping to provide vital information and resources directly to individuals and families who may be in need of support.

This initiative highlights the importance of raising awareness, breaking the silence, and ensuring that those affected by domestic violence know they are not alone and that help is available.

We are grateful for opportunities like this to collaborate with community partners and continue promoting safety, education, and access to resources.

Learning to Trust Yourself: Quieting the Mind to Hear Your Inner Voice

In a world that constantly tells us who to be, what to do next, and how fast we should get there, it’s easy to lose connection with one of the most important guides we have—our own inner voice.

At Hispanic Family Counseling, we often see individuals who are not lacking direction, talent, or ability…
They are simply overwhelmed by noise.

Noise from expectations.
Noise from past experiences.
Noise from self-doubt.

And when the mind is loud, it becomes difficult to hear ourselves clearly.

Sometimes, what we need most is a gentle reminder:
you are more capable than you think, and much of what you are searching for already exists within you.

Why Self-Trust Feels So Difficult

Self-trust is not just a personality trait—it’s something that is built over time.

Many people struggle with trusting themselves because of:

  • Past mistakes they haven’t fully processed

  • Fear of making the “wrong” decision

  • Internalized criticism or perfectionism

  • Anxiety that keeps the mind constantly active

From a mental health perspective, when the nervous system is in a state of stress or alert, the brain prioritizes protection—not clarity.

That means:
The louder the anxiety, the quieter your inner voice becomes.

The First Step: Regulating the Mind and Body

Before we can trust ourselves, we need to create space to actually hear ourselves.

This is where simple practices like breathing and mindfulness become powerful tools—not just for relaxation, but for self-connection.

Technique 1: Grounding Breath (Calming the Nervous System)

When your thoughts feel overwhelming, try this:

  • Inhale slowly through your nose for 4 seconds

  • Hold for 4 seconds

  • Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 seconds

  • Repeat for 2–3 minutes

This type of breathing helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which signals safety to your body.

As your body begins to relax, your thoughts often become less reactive—and more clear.

Technique 2: The Pause Practice

Self-trust grows in moments of pause.

Before making a decision or reacting impulsively, try:

  • Take a breath

  • Place a hand over your heart or abdomen

  • Ask yourself:
“What feels true for me right now?”

Not what is expected.
Not what is perfect.
Not what others would choose.

Just what feels true.

This practice helps strengthen your connection with your inner guidance and supports emotional regulation.

Technique 3: Quieting the Mental Noise (Simple Meditation)

You don’t need a long meditation practice to benefit.

Start with just 3–5 minutes:

  • Sit comfortably

  • Close your eyes or soften your gaze

  • Focus on your breath

  • When thoughts come (and they will), gently return to your breath

The goal is not to stop thinking—
It’s to create space between your thoughts and your awareness.

Over time, this space allows your inner voice to emerge more clearly.

Rebuilding the Relationship with Yourself

Learning to trust yourself is not about always being certain.

It’s about:

  • Listening without judgment

  • Responding with compassion

  • Allowing yourself to grow through experience

You may not always get it “right.”
But every time you pause, listen, and choose with intention—you strengthen that trust.

A Gentle Reminder

You are not starting from zero.
You are not missing something essential.

You are in the process of becoming—and you already carry within you the tools, the strength, and the capacity to move forward.

Sometimes, the next step isn’t about doing more…
It’s about becoming quiet enough to listen.

When You Need Support

While self-reflection and mindfulness are powerful tools, you don’t have to navigate everything on your own.

There are moments when having a safe, supportive space to talk, process, and receive guidance can make a meaningful difference.

At Hispanic Family Counseling, our team is here to support you in strengthening your emotional well-being, building self-trust, and navigating life’s challenges with greater clarity and confidence.

If you feel ready to take that step, we invite you to reach out and schedule an appointment.
Sometimes, the most important step forward is allowing yourself to be supported.

With care,
Hispanic Family Counseling
