Our Founder & President, Denisse Centeno Lamas, had the honor of participating in the annual board meeting of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Puerto Rico Chapter. During this meeting, goals and objectives for the year 2025 were defined, reaffirming our commitment to prevention, awareness, and support for those facing challenges in their mental health (January 2025).

Pulse Memorial Advisory Meetings are open to the public and can be emotional overwhelming for many directly or indirectly affected by this tragedy, HFC has counselor available at the meetings for anyone in need (August 2024).

As part of Mental Health Month, the Florida and Puerto Rico Chapters came together for the first virtual Research Connection Program. Dr. Duarte-Velez spoke to the community about treating suicidal thoughts and behaviors to learn about ways we can all play a role in preventing suicide among our youth (May 2024).

Our Founder & President, Denisse Centeno Lamas, offered the Soul Shop training where participants eceived useful education through group activity-based learning and creating conversations with each other encouraging help-seeking to prevent suicide and suicide attempts (April 10, 2024).

Liza Colon represented HFC in the monthly Working Together Coalition meeting where this time they talked about 'Access to Healthcare for All' (March 2024).

Every year, an increasing number of men, women and their families join '"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes": the international men's march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender-based violence. Our interns, José Robles, Angela Núñez, Yansly Marrero and Melissa Garzón, joined this walk to represent Hispafam (March 2024).

Hispafam was present at the event organized by Harbor House in Central Florida “It Takes Courage.” A volunteer-based domestic violence prevention initiative. We thank interns Angela Nuñez and Yansly Marrero who along with 40 law enforcement officers participated by distributing more than 9,886 door fliers to spread awareness and support throughout Orange County (March 2024).

The HAPBWA Association had its usual end-of-month meeting titled: “Nutritious Cuisine” where Liza Colon represented Hispafam (Mach 2024).

Each year, volunteer and staff leaders from AFSP chapters across the country gather to recognize accomplishments and learn more about how to advance their mission. This year, Central Florida hosted the 19th Annual American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Leadership Conference and our Founder & President was present with some of the Administrative Team (January 2024).

Our Founder & President, Denisse Centeno Lamas, traveled to NYC to be present at the National Board meeting of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) along with an incredible work team, of which she proudly belongs (December 2023).

Our Founder & President, Denisse Centeno Lamas, participated in the Holiday edition of “Coffee and Conversation” by University Behavioral Hospital, where mental health professionals from all over Central Florida come together to design strategies to serve our community (December 06, 2023).

One of our interns, Rosemary Rodriguez, represented Hispafam at the Fall Festival of the Iglesia Cristiana Hispana Discípulos de Cristo Del Norte de Orlando in Casselberry (November, 2023).

One of our clinicians, Xiomara Sánchez, was a facilitator in Puerto Rico offering tools and highlighting that public understanding about the impact of suicide on loved ones and those who have survived can improve social support (Nov, 2023).

Liza Colon represented Hispafam at the "Working Together Coalition" monthly meeting where they talked about “Health Care Resources for our Loved Ones.” The Business Development Director of AdventHealth Hospice Care, Javier Meléndez provided important information about the Hospice program offered by AdventHealth and how this care is designed to improve the quality of life of patients and their families by relieving suffering, controlling symptoms and provide emotional and spiritual support.

The HAPBWA Foundation held the “Laughter Workshop”, where psychologist Marlene Silva educated attendees on the benefits of laughing and shared several exercises and tools to release those endorphins that do us so much good. Ivelisse Aldea and Liza Colon represented HFC in this fun event (November, 2023).

Our Founder & President, Denisse Centeno-Lamas, was at the Soul Shop Directors' Retreat, where they devised strategies to better equip religious leaders and congregations in suicide prevention (Nov 2023).

Hispafam participated in the Job Fair organized by the Career Placement Dept. for the students of Ana G. Mendez University where Roberto Llavina and Daniela Astudillo from administrative team were able to offer future professionals information about our agency and invite them to be part of our team (Oct 18, 2023).

The 2023 Prospera Annual Success Stories event was held at the Orlando Museum of Arts, celebrating the dedication of local #Hispanic entrepreneurs and their partnerships that drive success. HispaFam was represented by Richard Centeno, Director of Operations, who feels grateful for being part of this celebration and congratulates all the winners and Prospera USA for its tireless support of small businesses (Oct, 2023)

Hispafam had the pleasure of collaborating with other organizations in the "Day of Community Services of Value" sponsored by the 'Foro De Mujeres Dominicanas'. We thank Luz Rodríguez, president of the identity, for the invitation to the event and for continuing to promote the importance of our mental health and our interns Ángela Núñez and Rosemary Rodríguez for their participation in it.

On October 19, 2023, our Founder & President, Denisse Centeno-Lamas, was recognized with the Brillante Community Service Award in Las Vegas by Prospanica for being a beacon of hope within the Hispanic community.

Working Together Coalition in collaboration with the MexicoConsulate in Orlando had a training on: Every life matters. Educational Counselor Dr. Bernardita Sierra held her workshop and focused on raising awareness about suicide prevention, learning about the signs, risks and resources available to help those in need, especially adolescents. Our Founder & President, Denisse Centeno Lamas, was present at the event “Protecting Health Care for the Hispanic Community”, sponsored by HispanicFederation and UnidosUS. A very important talk that goes a long way to helping 5.7 million Floridians, including children and members of the community with health care needs, maintain access to their Medicaid coverage.

The PR Chamber of Commerce held the “Lunch and Learn” with the new Fire Chief Charlie Salazar and Deputy Chief Adrián Fernández in the Municipality of Orlando (Oct 2022).

HispaFam was honored to be present at the inauguration and ribbon cutting of Lotus Behavioral Health, a center of excellence for care focused on adults, adolescents and families which has a residential #treatment program that helps adolescents who fight against substance use disorder and behavioral problems (Oct, 2022).
