Ana Karina Buzzetta, MS

Ana Karina studied Psychology at the Rafael Urdaneta University, from 1989 to 1994, later she completed a master's degree in Clinical Psychology at the same university, receiving the title of Magister Scientiarum in Clinical Psychology in 2002. Recently, Ana Karina completed her training in TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). She has worked as a psychologist at the Integral Center for Rehabilitation and Paralysis from 1996 to 2003, as well as at the José Félix Ribas Foundation since 1993, working in the positions of Assistant Therapist and Director of Prevention until 2009. She has taught the Prevention Diploma and Intervention of drug abuse at the Rafael Belloso Chacin University (URBE) and also at the Rafael Urdaneta University (URU) in the School of Psychology. In the same way, since 2002, she has worked as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice, specifically working with adolescents, adults, couples and families on issues of self-esteem, managing emotions, life projects, and addictions. Ana Karina is a facilitator of personal growth and social skills workshops.

Arleen Torres, LMHC

Arleen was born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico, where she finished her bachelor’s in psychology in 2008 before moving to Florida in 2009 to pursue a Masters in Guidance and Counseling in 2010. However, then she decided to continue studies toward her Mental Health License and in May of 2023; this came to fruition. She has worked for over 10 years with children, teens, and families in a nonprofit and outpatient setting. Her specialties include but are not limited to MATCH training which includes CBT approaches to addressing Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and Behavior due to ADHD, ODD, parenting, or school challenges. Arleen is characterized by creating a warm environment where clients can feel understood while learning to understand their emotions and how their behavior impacts others while looking for positive alternatives to move on.

Astrid Fernandez, RMHCI

Astrid is a registered mental health counselor intern in the state of Florida. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida in 2018 and her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling track in 2022 from Stetson University. Astrid has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults that are experiencing depression, trauma, anxiety, and behavioral issues. She is certified in MATCH, which stands for Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, or Conduct Disorders. Additionally, Astrid completed a program on Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to be able to address the needs of children and adolescents with post-traumatic stress disorder and other difficulties related to traumatic life events. Astrid loves to promote self-care and always encourages her clients to practice self-care and to understand its benefits.  

Cecilia Hernandez, MRC

Cecilia was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico. She has a Master's degree in Counseling from the University of Puerto Rico. She has a License Level III as a Professional Counselor in Psychoactive Substances and is working, privately, with people with drug addiction problems. She worked for 16 years as a Specialist in Rehabilitation from the Administration of Mental Health and Addiction in Puerto Rico. She has experience working with patients with severe mental conditions. She worked for many years on a voluntary basis, offering counseling services to the community. Counseling is her passion!

Christian Alverio, MSW, RCSWI

Christian was born and raised in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. He is a Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern who provides counseling and mental health services to families, adults, and adolescents helping them to focus on their strengths, problem-solving, and goals by providing them with healthy tools for the good management of their emotions. He earned a master’s degree in Social Work Direct Services at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. He has experience working with LGBTTQ+, groups, and with adults struggling with anxiety, emotions, grief, divorce, depression, anger management, and trauma. In addition, he has a history of working with HIV and homeless populations. As a clinical social worker and therapist, his core values and priorities are services, social justice, dignity, and individual core values. He places a heavy emphasis and understanding around human relationships while fostering integrity and competence at the forefront of his services.

Cindy Torres, MHC

Cindy was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Orlando, Florida where she graduated from Colonial High School. She completed a Bachelors Degree in Human Services with concentration in Children and Family Services and graduated with honors from Capella University with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Cindy is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor committed to helping individuals ages 12 and up to teach them how to navigate different life challenges while learning the necessary skills that promote healthier relationships, lifestyles, and overall wellbeing. Her work focuses on targeting ineffective behaviors, habits, and beliefs surrounding trauma, depression, anxiety, among others. She believes in taking a collaborative approach to helping clients reach their goals. Cindy’s multicultural competency and ability to see different perspectives enables her to meet people where they are. She has always been there to support those around her in their time of need and consider herself to be a very open minded and caring individual.  She’s passionate about helping individuals regaining control over their lives and achieving optimal daily functioning. She is also interested in participating in workshops, community outreach events, webinars, and podcasts.  

Cristina Paz, Ph.D.

Cristina was born in Maracaibo-Venezuela, and has lived in Orlando forva few years. She has a degree in Psychology and Master's degree in Clinical Psychology obtained from the Rafael Urdaneta-Venezuela University, as well as a Doctorate in Human Sciences and Postdoctoral Activities in Human Sciences from the University of Zulia-Venezuela, focused on Family Violence researching. Her professional career of more than 30 years has provided her with therapeutic mastery in psychological conditions related to medical illnesses, family problems and psychological evaluation. She is an Associate-Retired Professor of Social Work undergrad at the University of Zulia-Venezuela, teaching subjects such as General Psychology, Family Psychology, Human Development and Cognitive Processes. She is the creator of the Family Violence course, taught at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Postdoctoral levels at the same University, with training and facilitation in Systemic Family Therapy, Research Methodology and Positive Psychology. Cristina is a researcher on Family Violence since 1999, and a speaker at scientific events, with articles published in indexed journals. She is also a collaborator with the "La Nota Latina" Magazine, with articles written on family psychology that seek to educate families as a preventive means to many of their problems. Cristina is a person with training and passion for Psychology, whose mission is searching for the greater well-being of people and families.

Jacquelyn Longo, LCSW

Jacquelyn was born in Orlando, Florida, but shortly after, she moved to Spring Lake Park, Minnesota where she spent most of her grade school years. Once Jacquelyn graduated from school, she moved back to Orlando to attend the University of Central Florida where she got her bachelors in Sociology with a minor in Computer Science, and a certificate in Forensic Psychology and Victim Advocacy. Jacquelyn then continued on and got her masters in Social Work also from the University of Central Florida. Jacquelyn had worked as a Victim Advocate at the Orange County Sheriff's Office for 5 years before moving on to the Department of Veteran Affairs where she is a case worker to the homeless Veterans. Jacquelyn had completed her internship at Hispanic Family Counseling Inc., and was quickly hired after to work part time as a therapist where she has been since 2019. Jacquelyn has experience with grief and trauma groups along with individual counseling for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, among other topics. Jacquelyn is a firm believer in treating every client with dignity and respect, and to make each client feel comfortable in each session. Jacquelyn believes in fighting for social justice and what is right in the world.

Janice Negrón Almeda, MS - RMHCI

Janice is a Mental Health Counselor Register Intern. She has a master’s degree in clinical psychology with a specialty in neuropsychology from the Carlos Albizua University in San Juan Puerto Rico, and a bachelor’s degree in health education from the Medical Sciences Campus at the University to Puerto Rico. She has had the opportunity to work in a clinical environment, as well as an academic teaching graduate level courses in physiology psychology. Janice has experience as a therapist treating children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety, depression, and trauma problems. She has also provided services treating cases of children and adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Schizophrenia Bipolar Disorder, cases with Autism and Conversion Disorder. Janice has served as a speaking resource at universities, schools, businesses, and the general community of Puerto Rico.

Jasmin Suárez-Cordero, MA, RMHCI

Jasmin was born in New York and raised in Puerto Rico. She currently lives in Orlando with her beloved son, Yadiel, and husband, Raul. They are a big support in her life! She had the opportunity to finish a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Puerto Rico. Also, through the interesting challenges of life, she went to Madrid, Spain to study Social Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid. Since 1991, she has been working as a counselor and educator in different agencies and universities. Her philosophy as a helping professional and educator is based on a strong belief in people’s strengths. She believes that by providing the right tools and experiences, people will build up strengths and resilience that will allow them to manage challenges and succeed in life. She likes to see people grow and empower themselves to live a happy life.

Johanna was born in Puerto Rico. She has a master's degree in psychological counseling with a specialty in families, and a certification in education and mediation of conflicts. She has worked with children and adolescents in individual and group therapy and with the geriatric population.

Jose is a Social Worker who completed his bachelor’s and Master's degrees at the University of Puerto Rico. His professional career started as a Social Worker and Supervisor in the Department of Family, an agency he worked for five years. For the next ten years, he worked as Mediator and Supervisor in the General Court of Justice of Puerto Rico. In 2013, he moved to Florida where he has continued his professional development as Targeted Case Manager, Family Service Worker, and Mental Health Therapist. He also has been involved in volunteer work in the community, religious, and sports organizations. Jose has vast experience working with different types of populations; children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.

Kadeem Campbell, Ph. D., LMHC

Dr. Kadeem is a licensed mental health counselor and a recent graduate from Florida Atlantic University in 2023. Dr. Campbell’s doctoral studies were in Counselor Education. Dr. Campbell attained his master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida in 2018. Within his doctoral program the curriculum emphasized clinical, teaching, and supervisory aspects of mental health counseling. Dr. Campbell has worked with Hispanic Family Counseling since 2019. Dr. Campbell was raised within a Jamaican family and uses his cultural background to establish healthy rapport with individuals from the Caribbean. Furthermore, Dr. Campbell uses aspects such as culture and upbringing to help clients tell their own unique stories within treatment. He has primarily worked with children and adolescents suffering from depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, interpersonal relationship conflicts, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. However, recently Dr. Campbell has expanded his practice towards seeing more clients within the adult population. Dr. Campbell recently accepted a new position as a clinical supervisor within Hispanic Family Counseling. He is appreciative of this new role and the opportunities that come along with it. Dr. Campbell enjoys working with Hispafam and prioritizes the agency’s emphasis on community. Dr. Campbell appreciates the familial bond among himself and colleagues within Hispafam. He notes that Hispanic Family Counseling is an entity that embodies what ethical and competent clinical practice should look like.

 Kiara Serrano, LCSW

Kiara was born and raised in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. Kiara is a graduate from the University of Central Florida where she graduated with her Master’s degree in Social Work. Kiara completed her internship at the Juvenile Drug Court as well as ay Hispanic Family Counseling. Kiara’s clinical experience includes providing counseling to individuals (children, teens, and adults) experiencing depression and anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, and anger. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and watching television.

Lisa Del Valle, PhD., Licensed Psychologist

Lisa was born in Detroit, Michigan, but lived in Puerto Rico for most of her life. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, a Master's Degree in School Psychology, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree with a concentration in Psychology from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. Within the field of psychology, she has expanded her studies, training in Applied Behavior Analysis at ABA Spain and obtaining certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Puerto Rican children and adolescents, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for families and couples from the Psychological Research Institute ( IPSI) - UPR in Rio Piedras, PR. She was the founder of the Puerto Rico Psychological Group Professional Services Corporation. Lisa is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Florida and Puerto Rico. She is currently a supervisor of the Psychological Evaluations Department at Hispanic Family Counseling Inc. She also offers mental health counseling. For the past 13 years she has worked as a therapist with different populations addressing mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, challenging behaviors, grief, loss, and trauma. She has extensive experience working with the Puerto Rico Department of Education in various psychoeducational and intervention programs, as well as in psychological evaluations. She has been a researcher in her native country and has written for various professional magazines and newspapers in Puerto Rico. She is a wife and mother of three beautiful children. Her Christian faith has been key in her personal and professional development, where she has collaborated with different Faith communities. She recognizes that God is the pillar of her life and her call is to serve and help .

Luis Del Valle, MFA

Luis studied at the Theological University of the Caribbean in Puerto Rico, he has a Bachelor's Degree in Pastoral Theology and a concentration in pastoral counseling. Luis continued his studies at the Central University of Bayamón, obtaining a Master's Degree as a professional counselor and a concentration in couples and family therapy.

Luis Rivera, MSW

Luis was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, and raised in Miami, Florida. He now resides in and calls Orlando, Florida his home. A prior service military veteran, he also has experience working in social work, case management, crisis response, inpatient treatment, and counseling. With a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Colorado Technical University and a Master of Social Work from Walden University, he has a wide scope of understanding in matters of society, community, family, and mental health.

Malaika Brathwaite, MSW

Malaika received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Barry University and her Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers University. She has experience and enjoys working with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and anger management. Being raised in a Caribbean home, Malaika understands how culture can affect our identity and mental health. Malaika's therapy style is person centered, focusing on the clients strengths while helping the client gain new tools to reach their goals. Malaika strives to provide a safe space and strong rapport with her clients so that the client knows that Malaika honors and welcomes vulnerability.

Maria Del Pilar Mora-Rodriguez has been a practicing Psychologist and counselor in the mental health industry since 2001. Her career began with the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Psychology that concentrated on Clinical Psychopathology in Bogota, Colombia. After relocating to the United States in 2004, Maria completed her Master's degree in Education Guidance and Counseling at the bilingual University of Turabo Ana Mendez of South Florida. Her academic studies continued on to Nova Southeastern University focusing in Applied Behavior Analysis. Throughout her career, Maria has maintained continued studies in Lacan Psychoanalysis to better serve those in need. Maria is an integrative therapist who values the importance of building a respectful and empathetic relationship with clients. She believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is key for clients to feel understood and comfortable while they explore the issues which brought them into a therapeutic environment. This therapeutic approach includes in-depth analysis through Attachment Theory which reveals how early relationships can establish long-lasting and often problematic beliefs about oneself. Her approach to it develops a compassionate awareness and understanding of these patterns; especially if they are no longer helpful or positive. This insight paves the way for the client to experience new ways of being both inside and outside of the therapy room. Throughout her career, Maria has worked with a variety of health issues spanning autism, anxiety, addiction, childhood trauma, sexual abuse and depression. Martha was born in Peru. She has a bachelor degree in Clinical Psychology and a master's degree in Clinical Psychology as well from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (1991). She is a cognitive Behavioral Therapist specialized in Mindfulness. Also, Martha is affiliated with the APA-American Psychological Association since 2016 to date. She has been doing private practice since 1994. Martha works with adults, couples and family as a counselor and therapist, and with teens and children as a mindfulness teacher for anxiety and depression, ADHD and other conditions.

Meliza was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She has a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a degree in Mental Health from the University of Puerto Rico. Meliza has been living in Florida for three years and she is currently studying for a master's degree in clinical social work at Ana G. Méndez University. Meliza enjoys spending time with her family and discovering new places. She considers herself creative, and her favorite hobby is making crafts. She recently joined the PSR department at Hispanic Family Counseling Inc., and is very excited to be able to help people develop skills for personal growth and recovery. 

Mónica Ortiz, MSW

Monica was born in Puerto Rico. From a very young age she discovered her passion for working with children and families. This passion led her to study pedagogy. In 2003, she graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Preschool and Elementary Education. For 14 years, she worked as a preschool teacher serving preschool children between 3 and 5 years of age and their families. During her teaching career, she has had the opportunity to work with children with different special needs, among them Autism and ADHD. She was an advocate for children's rights and worked closely with the families of her students so that they could develop their skills to the fullest. Monica has worked in the Literacy Program of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico. She had the opportunity to participate and motivate adults to learn to read and write. In 2008, she decided that she wanted to help disadvantaged families in multiple situations in their recovery process and to encourage them to have a better quality of life. This motivation led her to study social work. She completed her internship in the Psychiatric Emergency Room for Children and Adolescents (ASMCA) at the Regional Hospital of Bayamón. In 2011, she completed her post-graduate studies at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, where she obtained a Master's Degree in Social Work. She worked as a volunteer at the Alzheimer's Association, Puerto Rico Chapter. In the same position, she worked as a support group collaborator. In her role as co-leader of the support group, she worked directly with the primary caregivers, focusing on providing the necessary assistance and education to optimize the quality of life of Alzheimer's patients and their families. She is currently working as a therapist. It is her goal to be able to provide each of her participants and their families with the necessary tools to improve their quality of life.

Nikos Figueroa, MA

Nikos Figueroa, MSP, holds an earned master’s in psychology with a specialization in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Nikos started his career as a Youth Counselor in the Puerto Rico’s National Guard Challenge Program in 1999, followed by 5 years as a Substance Abuse Counselor in Puerto Rico's Juvenile Institutions Administration. Figueroa distinguished himself as a Program developer which earned him the opportunity to continue as the Program Evaluator for the Puerto Rico's Drug Courts Program for 3 years and the Program Coordinator for the following 3. Nikos came to Florida in July 2013 and has provided services as a Mental Health Targeted Case Manager and Mental Health Counselor for various agencies in Central Florida. For the past three years he has specialized in children, adolescents and family issues, providing in school services. He is also a Certified Life Coach, Family Coach and a Coaching Professor for TRV Florida Group. Nikos is also an active Family Minister for the community and congregation Faith and Blessing Church in Kissimmee and he has worked side by side the pastoral leadership to teach the gospel to every family and develop healthy relationships within the community.

Norma Ventura, MSW

Norma is a Social Worker pursuing to become a Registered Intern and to obtain her License in Florida. She received her bachelor degree in Social Work from Lehman College in New York City and a master of Social Work degree from Walden University. She has experience and enjoys working with children and adults, experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and anger. Norma is Hispanic, originally from Honduras, she came to New York and started working with multicultural population as a social worker which makes her uniquely prepared to work with a diverse groups and understand how culture can affect mental health, identity and sense of belonging. Norma is a hard working person and strong advocate for mental health and enjoys educating others to promote awareness and discussions on mental health, less the stigma, and encourage others to seek treatment. She is a motivated individual and her passion is to help others.

Oliva Saldana, MSW

Oliva was born in Montería, Colombia, she has a bachelor degree in Psychology and a master degree in Clinical Social Work both from Ana G Mendez University. In 2013, Oliva was named president of a Foundation, which promotes the importance of resilience, empowerment and self-esteem. In 2018, Oliva wrote a book titled “Preach without Speaking”, in which the main message is the approach, as psychologists and social workers, of the importance of being sensitive to social problems and being an active part of the solutions to the diversity of problems that are affecting the individual and society in general. She is committed to not being a listener but a doer. Oliva has specialized throughout her career in applying therapies of different aspects and effective orientations, to treat any type of disorder in children, adolescents, adults, couples and also families, both in person and telehealth. Among its main intervention specialties, anxiety and depression disorders, relationship problems, learning difficulties, low self-esteem, deficits in social skills, bullying, anger control, prevention and psychoeducation in domestic violence can be highlighted.

Vanessa Bouffard, MSW - RCSWI

Vanessa is an MSW graduate from the University of Central Florida. Her areas of focus are adolescents, grief, pre/postpartum, and coaching through major life changes like divorce and career changes. Her client centered approach seeks to understand the individual and the systems in which they interact. She uses positive approaches with an emphasis of building resilience and living an authentic life. Vanessa has launched corporate well-being programs at a global level. Wendy J Neuman - M. Ed

Wendy was born and lived her primary years in Brooklyn, New York. Wendy is of mixed ethnicity, half Jewish and half Puerto Rican; but it was not until she moved to Puerto Rico that she learned the language and culture. She’s a registered intern and has been certified as a MATCH therapist, which is a evidence base therapy that works with CBT approaches to address Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and Behavior due to ADHD, ODD, parenting or school challenges. Wendy earned her Maters degree in Guidance and Counseling (2007) and bachelor’s degree in Psychology (2003). She has worked as a teacher and professor for dual enrollment Psychology 101, having experience with children, teens, and adults for over 20 years. She has also provided services treating cases of children and adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Schizophrenia Bipolar Disorder, and Autism. Wendy has been very involved with the community working with shelters, advocate against Domestic Violence, homeless and addicts. 

Wilmarie Rosa, MSW

Wilmarie was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and grew up in the small coastal town of Quebradillas. As soon as she was 11 years old she experienced her first grief, losing her paternal grandfather to cancer. This experience made her reflect on the importance and impact that the family system has on our lives. Years later her interest grew in conserving the environment, educating, offering service time and developing leadership through the BSA Venturing Scouting program. Wilmarie herself obtained her BA in Sociology from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, during which time she had experiences in different perspectives of the social sciences and human rights. Wilmarie worked in different studies and institutional initiatives as coordinator of the Culture of Peace Project for children survivors of intrafamily violence and their children, she participated in research in psychology, sociology and social sciences with a population of child survivors of intrafamily violence, preschool-age children, university students and communities. During her college years, she experienced the grief of her grandmother and her maternal grandfather, which led her to seek professional help and reflect on the importance of mental health in people's lives. Reason for which she completed a certification in Human Well-being from the UPRM which materialized her decision to train as a social worker. Wilmarie obtained her master's degree in social work at the Beatriz Lasalle UPRRP Graduate University of Social Work in 2018 after the experience of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, during which time she completed her thesis focused on protocols for emergency management in the social work profession. In April 2019, she began to develop professional experience in Orlando, FL as an intern at Hispanic Family Counseling Inc. through the Career Source program, during which time she was able to learn greatly thanks to the beautiful work culture and diversity of professionals that exist at HFC. Wilmarie has developed experience offering services to children, adolescents, and adults from bilingual Hispanic families with various diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, anger management, self-harm, adjustment problems, behavior, among others. One of her greatest satisfactions is when her clients report that the tools or techniques they have learned in sessions applied to her daily life have worked for them. In her free time. Wilmarie enjoys family time, baking, nature, arts and crafts, movies, poetry, spirituality, among other interests.

Xiomara Sánchez, LMHC

Xiomara was born and grew up in Puerto Rico where she completed a bachelor's degree in Sociology at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus in 2006. She also completed a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling at University of Phoenix, Puerto Rico campus in 2013. She has 6 years of experience on individual counseling for children, adolescents and adults. Currently, she is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. She is proud to serve Hispanic community in Florida and guide them to self -discover to improve mental health.
